Puppy grooming — when to start and why so early
12 June 2026 · 4 min read

When can a puppy first visit a groomer? Right after completing their vaccination course — usually at 12–16 weeks. And that timing is no accident.
Until about week 16, a puppy is in its socialisation window: anything it learns as safe then, it will accept for life. The dryer, clippers, a stranger's touch, standing on a table — a dog that meets these as a pup treats grooming as routine, not a threat.
A puppy's first visit shouldn't be a full groom. At Kudłate Cuda we start with an adaptation visit: a short introduction to the salon, a gentle bath, lots of rewards and zero pressure.
What can you do at home? From day one, get your puppy used to having paws, ears and muzzle touched. Brush briefly but daily — even if the coat doesn't need it yet. You're building a habit that pays off for the next dozen-plus years.
