A dog's first grooming visit — how to prepare
12 May 2026 · 5 min read

A first grooming visit is a brand-new experience for a dog: unfamiliar smells, the sound of dryers and clippers, new hands. Good preparation makes the moment calmer.
A few days ahead, get your dog used to having its paws, ears and muzzle touched — the areas a groomer handles most. A short walk before the visit helps release energy, and a light meal a few hours earlier (not right before) prevents discomfort.
For puppies and anxious dogs we recommend an adaptation visit — a short, calm session where the dog gets to know the salon without pressure. It makes later visits far easier.
